Urban Nails: Broadview & Danforth {Toronto Photogs Review Nail Salon}

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

For every 30th birthday, a birthday girl deserves a pedicure! And so, I brought my friend and fellow photog, Krista to my absolute favourite nail salon: Urban Nails for her birthday. It’s on the Danforth and it’s fabulous.

I found it last year when I was searching for a place to get my nails done before my wedding and nothing else compares (and I’ve been to snootier nicer salons as well.

Urban Nails is great for all kinds of reasons. Someone is always there to greet you as you walk in, they’ll provide you a bottle of water and I rarely wait (with an appointment). The atmosphere is pretty fab for a nail salon. There’s a special area for drying your nails in the back with tons of mags to flip through. They never rush you out! Of course, if you’re a regular, you can have your own kit stored there and, given the sheer volume of little containers spread over two floors, there are a LOT of regulars. One of my fave features of this little shop is the Massage Chairs. Just like the ones you feed a toonie to in the malls, but with a mini jacuzzi attached for your tootsies! AND….you don’t have to feed it a toonie!!

Yes, yes, enough about the massage chairs! Tell me about the quality of the mani/pedis!

I’ve had many a mani/pedi in my life from a variety of shops and this is, by far, the best! Manicures last 7-10 days depending on how hard you are on them. Pedicures last about a month for me, often longer. In the summer, I tend to go every 4-6 weeks. I’ve also had gel overlays from Urban Nails and they lasted longer and filled better than any other place I’d had them before.

Oh… and all the staff are SUPER friendly and, even though English may not be their first language, they’re happy to chat with you throughout your appointment or leave you to read, chat with a friend etc.

The one thing I DO recommend is to make an appointment. Usually they can handle walk-ins, but on lovely days in the summer, folks are lined up out the door. And I have seen a few men in there, too, so don’t hesitate to bring your guy along with you. If he’s man enough to go ;)

PS – Cost? $35 for a mani/pedi plus tip. ‘Nuff said.

PPS – Hope you had a lovely 30th B-day Pedicure, K-Dawg!! And thanks for the cupcake! xo
